Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101716 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The MV *Eva*, a German minesweeper scuttled during the infamous 1919 fleet surrender, isn’t about vibrant corals. It’s about history, cold water, and a truly atmospheric dive. Lying relatively intact in Scapa Flow, she’s a perfect entry point for divers looking to explore the bigger, more daunting Scapa wrecks, but equally satisfying on her own. We love her easily accessible compartments and the way the light filters through the portholes on a sunny day. What makes the *Eva* special is her scale – large enough to spend a whole dive exploring, but not so vast you get lost. We often find conger eels peering out from open doorways, and the interior spaces are home to fat Atlantic cod and armies of squat lobsters. Visibility can vary, but when it's good, seeing the gun mounts and the bridge structure emerge from the gloom is genuinely eerie. For an even more rewarding dive, time your visit for slack water; the currents here can pick up, making penetration trickier. The sheer sense of diving into a moment of history, surrounded by the ghosts of a bygone era, is what keeps us coming back.
