Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101748 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Diving the X22 in Scapa Flow is less about vast scale and more about intimate discovery. We’d say it’s our favourite of the midget subs here. Dropping down, the visibility in the Flow can be a bit variable, but on a good day, the outline of this X-craft emerges, small and purposeful. You can trace its entire length, imagining the two-man crew inside. The real joy comes from peering into the open hatches, getting a sense of the cramped conditions. Jewel anemones speckle the metal, and we often find common lobsters tucked into any crevice. It’s a site for careful exploration rather than grand sweeping views. Look closely for tiny Devonshire cup corals clinging to the hull. We think it’s best suited to divers who appreciate history and enjoy the challenge of exploring a smaller, more intact wreck. Bring a good torch and take your time.
