Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101807 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

When we think Scapa Flow, the German High Seas Fleet often comes to mind, but for something a little different, the *Energy* is a real standout. This trawler, scuttled during WWII to block a channel, sits upright and largely intact, making for an incredibly atmospheric dive. Drop down and you’ll find the deck at around 15 metres, often enveloped in a green twilight, with the bow gun still pointing defiantly into the gloom. We love navigating her holds, now home to butterfish darting between the frames and a surprising number of common sea stars clinging to the bulkheads. The real joy here is the penetration – she’s open enough to explore safely with a bit of training, revealing glimpses of the working life of the vessel. Our favourite moment is always finning through the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments before she was sunk. Visibility can be temperamental, as is typical for Scapa, but even in murkier conditions, the sheer scale and preserved details of the *Energy* shine through. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill; a drysuit is definitely your friend here.
