Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101812 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Diving Gunnaren isn't about deep exploration, it's about a fantastic intro to Scapa Flow's unique blend of history and biology. This Swedish steamship, part of the scuttled German High Seas Fleet, sits upright in accessible depths, making it ideal for newer wreck divers or those wanting a less taxing dive. We love poking around her cargo holds, which often house impressive numbers of Atlantic cod and plump conger eels. The deck structures are colonised by light-bulb sea squirts and thick ropes of bladder wrack, creating a green-gold tapestry that filters the ambient light. Keep an eye out for sand stars clinging to the hull and common whelks moving slowly across the metalwork. Our favourite part? The sheer volume of fish life, especially the shoals of pollock darting between the frames. For a quieter dive, try to get there early; it's a popular spot.
