Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102057 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Diving Scapa Flow is always an experience, but the Unnamed Shipwreck, known locally as Canmore 101969, offers something particularly haunting. We love dropping onto this site on a quiet day. The visibility in the Flow can be hit or miss, but when it’s good, the sheer scale of the wreck is impressive. You're descending into history here, onto a vessel that met its end during wartime. The currents can pick up, so we’d suggest timing your dive for slack water; it makes exploring the various sections much more enjoyable. You’ll find the wreck well-colonised by now. Look for lumpsuckers clinging to the metalwork and those inquisitive four-bearded rockling poking out from crevices. Schools of poor cod often hang in the gloom, and if you’re lucky, a harbour porpoise might pass overhead. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the somber beauty of a submerged past, not just the colourful fish.
