Scapa Flow, even on a calm day, feels like a place steeped in history. The Unnamed Shipwreck, Canmore 102157, is less about identifiable features and more about the sheer atmosphere of diving something that’s been down there for decades. We love that eerie feeling as you drop onto the shape, vague at first, then slowly resolving into twisted metal and bulkheads. The visibility can be a bit of a lottery, but when it’s good, you’ll see the skeletal remains of what was once a mighty vessel, now completely colonised by the Flow’s resilient marine life. Don't expect the pristine lines of some purpose-sunk wreck here. This is raw history. Think anemones clinging to every surface, dense clouds of saithe swirling around the superstructure, and the occasional inquisitive wrasse peeking out from a porthole. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the ghostliness of Scapa, the way the sea reclaims everything. Our favourite bit is navigating the interior, imagining the lives that once moved through these now-silent corridors. Bring a good torch and keep an eye on your deco, it’s easy to lose track of time down there.
