Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102246 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The Emerald Wings isn't one of the Scapa Flow giants, but we still absolutely love this wreck. It's a trawler, sitting upright and mostly intact on a sandy seabed, and it’s a brilliant dive if you’re looking for something a bit more intimate than the battleships. The visibility here can be superb, letting you see the whole shape emerge from the green gloom as you descend. We always enjoy poking around the stern, where the prop is still in place, and the wheelhouse offers some easy penetration for those keen to go inside. This wreck is just teeming with life. The metalwork is covered in colourful anemones and dead man’s fingers, and we’ve spotted more thornback skates here than almost anywhere else in Scapa, often tucked right up against the hull. Dogfish are common, too, snuffling in the sand. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric dive, especially when the light filters through the water. We’d suggest this one for any diver with a bit of wreck experience who wants to experience a different side of Scapa Flow’s history and marine life.
