Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102905 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Scapa Flow always delivers, and the Canmore 102312 wreck, while maybe not as famous as some of her neighbours, holds her own. We love this site for its genuine sense of discovery. You’re not just swimming over a pile of metal; you’re exploring the skeletal remains of something once mighty, now completely reclaimed by the sea. Dropping down onto the main structure, the sheer scale hits you. This isn’t one of those wrecks where you struggle to make out what you're looking at. The lines of the ship are still evident, enough to imagine her in her prime. Conger eels are a common sight here, often peering out from crevices, their thick bodies camouflaged against the barnacle-encrusted steel. We’ve had some incredible moments watching poor cod dart between the frames, and the anenomes are a real treat, their tentacles swaying gently in the subtle flow. Our favourite part has to be the feeling of penetrating deeper into the structure, even just a few metres into a compartment, feeling the chill of the water and the silence amplify. It’s a dive that rewards slow, deliberate exploration. This wreck suits divers who appreciate history, enjoy navigating through submerged architecture, and don’t mind a bit of a chill for a genuinely atmospheric dive. Visibility can swing a bit here, so pick a calm day if you can, and you’ll be amply rewarded.
