Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102975 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Scapa Flow is littered with history, but some of our favourite dives are the lesser-known, often unnamed, wrecks that dot the seabed. The Canmore 102975, an unidentified shipwreck, is one of them. We love that it’s less picked over than some of its famous neighbours, offering a quieter, more personal connection to Scapa’s past. Dropping down, the gloom feels ancient. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but you can still make out large sections of hull plating and what looks like engine components scattered across the silty bottom. This isn’t about penetration, it’s about slow exploration. Look for the way the current has sculpted the metal, creating nooks and crannies where plumose anemones thrive, their white tentacles swaying like ghostly fingers. Conger eels are often tucked into the larger sections of collapsed structure. Visibility can swing, as it always does in Scapa, but even on a murkier day, the sheer volume of history feels palpable. This dive is perfect for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of a lost ship, rather than just the big names. Dive it slowly, and let the details emerge.
