Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102976 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

We’ve spent a lot of time diving Scapa Flow, and while everyone talks about the German High Seas Fleet, some of our absolute favourite dives are on the smaller, more enigmatic wrecks. Take Canmore 102976, this unnamed shipwreck, for instance. She’s not huge, but that’s part of her charm. We love poking around her scattered remains, trying to piece together her story from the twisted metal and broken timbers. The wreck lies fairly shallow, making it accessible even on a shorter bottom time, though depth here is always a guess until you're in the water. Visibility is typical Scapa Flow, usually around 5-10 metres, and it's often a bit silty. We always suggest taking a good torch; the light really brings out the textures of the corroded steel and the vibrant colours of the plumose anemones that cling to every surface. You’ll find squat lobsters tucked into crevices and small cod darting between the frames. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of a wreck slowly being reclaimed by the sea, not for those chasing big pelagics.
